Happy Memorial Day! Patriotic parades, fireworks, and the unofficial start to Summer and BBQ season is upon us! Time to fire up the grill and get together with family and friends over great food and drink. What better opportunity than this to kick off our inaugural newsletter? That and the fact that I am literally watching the clock wind down on my last few hours of the last day of my current job. Out with the old and in with the new—we’re starting the newsletter. We’re aiming for a weekly Thursday delivery—just in time to start planning your weekend cook. Contents will include what’s happening with us in the Slowpaddle camp, recipes, reviews, and related news stories. Weekend PlansThe Slowpaddle boys are getting together Friday for a brew session—a hazyish IPA based on the All Together IPA recipe. Braun is gathering ingredients and we’ll meet up at SPE for a 10 gallon batch. The menu is still a work in progress, but Tim is throwing out there that he wants to make a few pizza’s on the Camp Chef. I’m thinking wings need to be involved, and I’m anxious to try out Tim’s brat-burnt-ends idea for myself—he was very excited about his results. We’ll have plenty of content on the usual channels Twitter, YouTube, and Slowpaddle.com. Speaking of content, as I mentioned above I’m taking a short break between day-jobs over the next week+. In addition to finally getting this newsletter launched, I plan to use the time to wrap up a number of unfinished blog articles and videos. So you can expect more consistency from here on out. IF NOT, you can always bark at me through email rob.johnson@slowpaddle.com. On to the Brew & BBQ News! Perdue Is All-In on Beer Can ChickenPerdue is bringing back beer-can chicken in a big way—and without the “You might be a redneck” jokes. They have a website devoted to recipes, how-to’s, and they’re even brewing up a special beer-can chicken beer! If you’re not in a state of tee-totaller-tyrannists (such as PA) you can order the beer online. We’re putting beer-can-chicken on the Memorial Weekend BBQ list, blog and videos to come! Brewing Patriots“Adapt And Overcome: Got Your Six” is a 6% India Pale Ale brewed with Spelt, Toasted Oats, and Pale Wheat malts. The hop bill includes: Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Comet, and Simcoe hops bringing out flavors and aromas of papaya, melon, and stone fruits with a soft and fluffy finish. Many ingredients are from Pennsylvania veteran-owned and operated businesses. Grain and malt for this beer will come from Deer Creek Malthouse in Glen Mills, and some of the hops being used for the beer have been produced by GEMS Farms Hops in Carlisle. The beer will be released throughout Pennsylvania on Memorial Day Weekend 2023 with proceeds of sales going directly to Keystone Military Families. KMF was established with the goal of providing support for our deployed troops and their families. Pittsburgh Ranked as No 1 Beer City in America?Yeah, not Ashville who’s brewery per capita ratio is approaching 1,000:1, not some SoCal West Coast IPA hot bed like San Diego, and not a New England Haze paradise like maybe Waterbury, Vermont…nope. The Steel City is the No 1 beer city. Have a Great Holiday Weekend! We wish you the best of times this Memorial Weekend and hope you’ve enjoyed the new-s-letter. As with any new venture, we could use your help, so please share the love with your friends who have an interest in brewing or BBQing. I mean, if they don’t have an interest in brewing or BBQing, are they really even your friends? Hit us up on Twitter with your pics and war stories! Till Next Week! Rob Slowpaddle is composed of three friends with a shared passion for brewing and BBQ, one of whom is also passionate about sharing content and the other two who begrudgingly go along with it. The Slowpaddle Weekly Paddle newsletter is devoted to changing lives through home crafting food and beverage with touch of outdoors experience. That’s right people, we’re changing lives! Volume 24 Issue #3 The Weekly Paddle Episode 3 Have You Seen My Weiner! SPE spent the final week of Spring Training down in the Bay area of the Sunshine State, catching a few ball games and plenty of beers. Local brewer gone big Cigar City is commonplace, and Jai Alai is not a bad fall-back brew at all. And he even scored a Perfect 10% Double IPA version. Lesser known Magnanimous Brewing is another nice local find, Juice Lord holds up well against the New England brews. But now it’s Opening...

Volume 24 Issue #1 The Weekly Paddle Episode 1 It’s been a long, long while, I know. I get momentum and then get overwhelmed with life stuff. I’ll try to do better and be more consistent with these newsletters. I do appreciate the growth we’re seeing on all the social media channels, and I hope we can do the same with this. So what’s smokin? Sausage! 120 lbs of Sausage Day!!! We did our annual sausagefest last weekend. 120 lbs of sausage split between chicken bacon ranch, kielbasa, breakfast,...
